Founded in 1983, Trees For Houston has planted over half a million trees in and around Houston. Over its lifetime Trees For Houston has grown into an organization that grows, plants, and maintains thousands of tress around Houston.

Trees for Houston and Helmwood Urban Lumber are at opposite ends of the same mission. We are working together to promote a more holistic approach to tree management in Houston, from planting saplings to keeping fallen mature trees out of landfills and putting them to good use.

Houston's Green Building Resource Center is a free resource enabling the public to experience and learn more about healthy and energy, water, and material conserving design and construction. Open to the public to learn about green building in a relaxed setting where they can browse through our displays, view material samples of sustainable products, and have their plans reviewed for green strategies.

We are currently working on an Urban Lumber display to place in the Green Building Resource Center. Long-term we plan to work with the GBRC to promote re-purposing the 10's of thousands of trees that come down in Houston every year.

Learn more about the GBRC by visiting them online at or in person at 1002 Washington Ave, Houston 77002.
